Jake Paul is not the most popular man in the world of combat sports, but there’s no denying he has a strong following.

With more than 23 million subscribers on YouTube, Paul has managed to convert a social media following into a powerful marketing tool that has seen him become a professional boxer.

He is currently 3-0 with three knockouts to his name, the most recent being a first-round destruction of former UFC man.

Paul has more UFC names in his sights as he looks to tempt cage fighters over to the boxing ring and UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman is a prime target.

“There’s conversations happening,” Paul revealed to Chael Sonnen. “I believe Kamaru’s manager is already in talks with Dana [White, UFC boss], and I think that’s all I can say.

“One hundred per cent, I’m down for all the smoke. I want all the smoke. Daniel Cormier, another example.”

Whether Paul means it or not, there’s no disputing that Usman is a very different proposition to Askren.

While Paul’s antics can be divisive – with his prank on Floyd Mayweather a very recent example – he did win a lot of people over with his tweet to Dana White about fighter pay in UFC.

The younger of the Paul brothers made a compelling argument as to why White should pay his fighters more, including campaigning for Francis Ngannou versus Jon Jones to get made, something that doesnt look like it’s happening.

“I’m a free agent and I think that’s the way it should be with all fighters,” he said.

“It just sucks to see these young kids, these young boxers, these young UFC champions get tied up into these contracts where they’re owned by the promoter, they’re owned by Dana White. And they’re not getting fair pay, they’re not getting the fights that they want.

“It’s a big problem. How is Arianny Celeste… she’s a ring girl, right? How does she make more money than some of the fighters in the octagon who are risking their lives? Doesn’t make sense to me.

“It’s just a big problem and I’m hoping to help change that and just help fighters realize, like, they are the content. They are the ones that the fans are showing up for. They’re the ones that are driving these pay-per-views and they’re the ones, again, risking their lives. And they should be rewarded for that.”

Paul hasn’t lined up his next fight yet but his brother, Logan, takes on Floyd Mayweather on June 6.
