Chris Eubank Jr has backed Canelo Alvarez to beat Billy Joe Saunders in Texas on Saturday night – and he’s put his money where his mouth is.
The British fighter is aiming to do something that only Floyd Mayweather has done before, and that’s beat Canelo.
Amir Khan, Callum Smith, and Liam Smith are among the six Brits who have tried, and failed, to claim victory over the Mexican.
The 30-year-old is heavy favourite to win for the 56th time in his career, having lost once and drawn two other fights.
Eubank Jr, who beat Marcus Morrison on the Derek Chisora vs Joseph Parker undercard on Saturday, provided proof of a £10,000 bet he’s placed on the upcoming fight.
He wrote on Twitter: “The bet has been placed! Billy Schmoe Saunders to get cleaned out by Canelo Alvarez this Saturday. Oh… & the 10k I stand to win will all go to charity.”
That’s if the fight even goes ahead this weekend as a dispute about the size of the ring rumbles on.
Canelo initially wanted an 18ft version, while Saunders hoped for a 24ft equivalent.
The elusive Brit is expected to attempt to use his skills and movement in order to defeat the pound-for-pound king, but will need as much space as possible in order to avoid his assault.
Canelo agreed to rise 20ft, while Saunders dropped to 22ft, but nobody is currently willing to budge any further.
Saunders’ father, Tom, has claimed the fight is OFF over the dispute when the Brit failing to turn up for their first face off of fight week.
Canelo, however, is adamant the fight will go ahead.
He said: “I don’t care about the size of the ring, I’m just gonna go in there and do my job. It’s not the only excuse he’s had, he’s had plenty of excuses… He has to fight Saturday. The fight’s going to happen, that’s not a problem.”
